How do I set up 2Do on a new iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Android device?
If you already use 2Do on at least one other device with sync enabled, sync that device first and let it finish. Then:
- Install 2Do on the new device and open it. On Android, sync requires 2Do Pro or an active trial.
- Open Settings > Sync on iPhone, iPad, or Mac, or Settings > Sync setup > Sync Method on Android, and pick the same sync method you've been using on your other devices.
- Sign in with the same account.
- Start a sync and follow the choices for your platform below.
On iPhone, iPad, or Mac, if the new device already contains user data and 2Do shows the first-sync prompt, choose Replace Local Data, which pulls everything from the sync service down and leaves the server copy untouched. An empty device can complete setup without this prompt. If the new device has unique tasks worth keeping, choose Merge instead; it is available for every method on these platforms.
On Android:
- iCloud: an empty device downloads the account's data automatically. If asked, choose Keep iCloud Tasks when iCloud contains your complete copy, or Combine Tasks to keep work from both sides.
- Dropbox or CalDAV: choose Replace data on this device when the account contains your complete copy. These methods do not offer a Merge choice. Back up any work that exists only on the new device before choosing a replacement.
- Toodledo: choose Replace data on this device to receive the account's copy, or Merge local data with server to keep work from both sides.
- Todoist: the first connection uses Merge sync. To deliberately replace this device's synced data with the account's copy, use Settings > Sync setup > Next sync action > Replace data on this device, then pull down on the task list.
If instead you've just restored from a backup and your device now has the freshest data:
- Set up sync with the same method and account.
- On iPhone, iPad, or Mac, choose Replace Server Data when the first-sync prompt appears, except with Todoist or Apple Reminders, where you choose Merge. On Android, open Settings > Sync setup > Next sync action and use the appropriate choice:

Return to the task list and pull down to sync. Toodledo and Todoist merge the restored tasks with their existing account data; they do not offer a whole-account replacement on Android.
On iPhone, iPad, or Mac, Replace Server Data replaces the server's syncable data with your restored copy. Todoist and Apple Reminders keep the service's existing data when you merge instead.
If you're unsure which side has the freshest data, create a backup first so you have a recovery point either way. On Mac, use 2Do > Settings > Backups (a backup's ⋯ menu > Save a Copy…).
