How to Share Minimal 2Do Logs

Understanding 2Do Logs

2Do Mac keeps a limited set of recent logs that record app activity and technical details. These logs help us diagnose errors, usability problems, and compatibility issues when you contact support.

Logs may include task, list, or tag names involved in recent activity, along with sync account details, service responses, app settings, and error messages needed for troubleshooting. If you have privacy concerns or organizational requirements, you can create a smaller set that covers only a reproduced problem.

important

The information in the logs is kept confidential, used exclusively for troubleshooting, and deleted after the issue is resolved. Please consult our privacy policy to learn how we handle your logs.

When Should You Share Minimal Logs?

This method works best when you can reliably reproduce the issue. If the problem occurred in the past and cannot be reproduced, clearing older logs may remove the details we need. In that case, consider reviewing and reducing the existing logs manually.

How to Share Minimal Logs

If you can reproduce the issue, follow these steps on your Mac:

  1. Open 2Do > Settings > Diagnostics.
  2. Click Show Logs. Finder will select the Logs folder; open that folder.
  3. Quit 2Do.
  4. Delete the .log files from the Logs folder.
  5. Relaunch 2Do and reproduce the issue.
  6. Return to 2Do > Settings > Diagnostics and click Email Diagnostic Report.
  7. Confirm that you want to create the email, then add a short description and the steps that trigger the problem.

2Do will create a new database-info.txt summary, attach it with the new log files in 2Do Logs.zip, and open a message addressed to support@2doapp.com.

How to Manually Review and Reduce Existing Logs

If the issue is difficult to reproduce, you can inspect the existing files before sharing them:

  1. Open 2Do > Settings > Diagnostics and click Show Logs.
  2. Open the selected Logs folder, then quit 2Do so the files do not change while you review them.
  3. Sort the .log files by name or modification date.
  4. Open the newest files in a text editor and keep only the files that cover the problem.
  5. Review database-info.txt. It contains an outline of your app, device, sync, list, tag, and settings configuration; include it only if you are comfortable sharing it.
  6. Select the files you want to send, Control-click them, and choose Compress.
  7. Email the resulting zip file to support@2doapp.com with a description of the problem.
tip

You can also remove sensitive lines from copies of the files before compressing them. Please keep the surrounding error details and identifiers when possible, since they often show which request or task caused the problem.

Can 2Do Automatically Redact Private Information?

2Do cannot reliably decide which task names, account details, URLs, or identifiers you consider private. These exact values are often needed to match an error to the task or sync request that caused it. For that reason, 2Do asks for your approval before creating a diagnostic email and lets you review the files manually when needed.

Self-Troubleshooting

If you prefer not to share logs, you can inspect them yourself:

  1. Open 2Do > Settings > Diagnostics and click Show Logs.
  2. Open the selected Logs folder and sort the .log files by modification date.
  3. Open the newest file in a text editor.
  4. Search for errors or warnings near the time the problem occurred.

This may help you identify a failed sync request or other app error without sending any files to us.
