Drag and Drop
Drag tasks to move them between lists or sections, arrange their manual order, or create a calendar event. Use Batch Editing when you want one drag to include several tasks.
Dragging Selected Tasks
- Tap Batch Edit at the top of the Tasks screen.
- Select the tasks you want to move.
- Touch and hold one of the selected rows until the selection lifts.
- Keep holding while you drag to a destination, then release.
Touching and holding an unselected row in batch mode does not lift it. Select the tasks first. Outside batch mode, touching and holding a row opens its task menu.
Dropping on a List
Drag the selection toward the lists panel. If the panel is hidden, hold near the left edge until it appears. In a right-to-left layout, use the right edge.
A highlight marks a list that can accept the drop. Keep holding near the panel's top or bottom to scroll to a destination outside the visible area.
| Destination | Effect |
|---|---|
| A regular list or Inbox | Moves the tasks into that list. |
| Today | Gives the tasks today's due date. |
| Starred | Stars the tasks. |
| Done | Marks the tasks complete. |
Today, Starred, and Done apply an action to the tasks; they do not become the containing list. Smart Lists, list-group headings, locked lists, hidden or archived lists, and lists you cannot edit do not accept task drops.
To choose a project or checklist as the destination, use Move in the task's touch-and-hold menu or in the batch toolbar.
Dropping on a Section
In a regular list with saved sections, use the drag handle at the end of a task row to lift it. You can also lift a selected batch. Drag over a section heading and release when the heading is highlighted.
A drop on the section heading files the task under that section. Dropping over tasks above the saved sections can return it to the list's area without a section. Automatic sorts still order tasks by their sort values; assigning a section does not change a due date or priority to match the row beside it.
With Manual sorting, a line between rows shows a possible insertion point for unfinished root tasks. A drop there changes their manual position and, when needed, section membership. Moving a sub-task out of its parent uses a section heading rather than a gap between root tasks.
See Task Sections for creating, naming, and folding sections.
Reordering Tasks
Choose Manual from the sort bar, then enter Batch Edit. Drag a task using the handle at the end of its row to change its position.
In views without saved sections, reordering stays within the current group. It does not move a task between a project and its list or between unfinished and completed groups. Use Move when you want to change the task's destination.
For a list with sections, use the insertion marker to choose a position inside a section or move an unfinished root task into another section.
Reordering Sections
Outside batch mode, drag a saved section by its heading's handle. A position marker shows where the section will be placed relative to the other saved sections.
The section keeps its tasks and the list's sort. Reordering a heading changes the section order, not the due dates, priorities, or other values of its tasks.
Creating a Calendar Event
With the Calendar Day Bar visible and calendar access allowed, drag one task onto it to start a calendar event. You can lift a single selected task in batch mode, or use the task's handle where it is available.
Android opens the calendar event editor so you can review the title, date, and time, then save. The task remains in 2Do. A drag containing several tasks cannot create one event.
The Calendar Day Bar is available with Pro, or after enabling Calendar during the app's trial. See Calendar Events for setup, calendar access, and the event details 2Do supplies.
