Calendar Events
The Calendar Day Bar shows appointments above your tasks so you can plan around the time you have available. It reads calendars available on your Android device. Your choice of task sync service is separate.
What You Need
Calendar Events is part of 2Do Pro. If your free trial is still running, choose Try It Now to enable it for the rest of the trial. After the trial, choose Go Pro to keep using it.
You also need calendar access for 2Do and a calendar account set up on your device. To open or edit events, install a calendar app that supports those actions.
Turning On Calendar Events
- Open Settings > Calendar Events in 2Do.
- Choose where to show events:
- Show Calendar Events in Today shows them above Today. This is the default.
- Show Calendar Events in Lists shows them above Today and your other task lists.
- Tap Allow Calendar Access and approve Android’s permission prompt.
- Under Calendars, turn off any calendars you want to hide. New calendars are included automatically.
The Lists setting includes Today, so it disables the Today-only switch. Turn both off to hide the day bar.
If you previously denied permission, use Open Settings to allow calendar access for 2Do. Dismissing the access prompt above your tasks turns off both display settings; you can enable them again here.
Viewing Your Schedule
Tap the summary above your tasks to expand or collapse the bar. When collapsed, it shows the current or upcoming event, or when you are free.
Use the view button in the expanded bar to switch between a list of events and a day timeline. All-day events appear separately. 2Do remembers your view and whether the bar is expanded.
The bar can appear in Smart Lists when Show Calendar Events in Lists is on. It is hidden inside an opened project or checklist, or while you apply an extra search or date filter to the list.
Browsing Other Days
Use Show Dates in the expanded bar to reveal dates from today through the next 30 days. Tap a date to see its events. This changes the schedule only; it does not filter your tasks.
Closing the date row or collapsing the bar returns it to today.
To mark busy dates, open Settings > Calendar Events > Busy Days > Calendar Day Bar and choose None, Dots, or Heat Map.
Opening an Event
Tap an event to see its details. Choose Open in Calendar to view it in your calendar app, or Edit to change it there. If more events are available than the bar can show, tap +… more to open that day in your calendar app.
Adding a Task to Your Calendar
Add a task as a calendar event to set aside time for it:
- Touch and hold the task and choose Add to Calendar.
- If it has notes, choose Include Notes or Without Notes. Choose Cancel to stop.
- Your calendar app opens a new event with the task’s title and dates filled in. Review the event, choose its calendar, and save it there.
The task itself stays unchanged. This command works even when the day bar is hidden.
You can also use drag and drop. Enter batch editing, select one task, then drag it onto the day bar. The bar must have calendar access and be showing your events. A highlighted outline marks where to drop it. The same notes choice and calendar editor then open.
How the Event Time Is Chosen
| Task dates | Proposed event |
|---|---|
| Start time and a later due time on the same day | From the start time to the due time |
| Start time | Starts then and lasts for the task’s duration |
| Due time and duration | Ends at the due time, starting the duration earlier |
| Due time without a duration | Starts at the due time |
| Dates without times | An all-day event covering those dates |
| No dates | Uses the day shown in the bar, or today when it is hidden |
If the task has no duration, a timed event lasts 15 minutes. An undated task starts at the next quarter hour when added to today. For another day, it uses your default due time, or 9:00 AM if you have not set one.
If Events Are Missing
- Check that calendar access is allowed under Android Settings > Apps > 2Do > Permissions.
- Check the enabled calendars in Settings > Calendar Events in 2Do.
- Confirm that the calendar is available in your device’s calendar app. Syncing tasks through iCloud or Dropbox does not add calendar accounts to Android.
- If Go Pro appears, check your Pro purchase or the time remaining in your trial.
For task dates and date filtering, see Dates and Durations.
