Sync with Google Tasks
2Do does not sync with Google Tasks. Google's public API, the connection available to other apps, leaves out too many of the details that make 2Do useful. A basic connection would let you exchange tasks while leaving much of your planning information unavailable in Google Tasks.
What the API Can Carry
The API supports task titles, notes, completion, lists, and basic subtasks. Its published task fields leave out several properties that 2Do uses:
| In 2Do | Google Tasks API limitation |
|---|---|
| Due times | The API discards the time and cannot read it back. |
| Separate start dates, deadlines, and durations | No equivalent set of scheduling fields. |
| Priorities and stars | No priority or starred field. |
| Tags | No tag or label field. |
| Repeat rules | No recurrence field. |
| Multiple reminders and location alerts | No reminder or location-alert fields. |
| Photos and audio attachments | No attachment field for these files. |
Google also describes the API's due field as a scheduled day, not a deadline. It cannot represent 2Do's separate start and due dates with their times. These limits are documented in Google's Task resource reference and API reference.
What This Would Mean for Your Tasks
In 2Do, a task can have a deadline with a time, a priority, tags, several reminders, and a repeat rule. Those details determine when it appears, how you find it, and when you are reminded to act.
A Google Tasks connection would have to leave many of those details in 2Do or encode them as note text. Text in a note does not become a working priority, tag, or repeat rule in Google Tasks. You would see a much simpler version of the task there.
Some supported sync services also have limits, which we explain in their guides. Google Tasks leaves out too many core properties for us to offer the sync experience we want for 2Do.
Google's Apps and Public API
Features in Google's own apps are not necessarily available through its public API. Google introduced task times and repeating tasks in its apps in March 2019. A feature needs to be exposed through the API before another app can sync it.
Requests for richer task features go back to at least 2011. Google's 13 January 2011 summary of user feedback lists repeating tasks and reminders among its top requests. That post concerns Google Tasks as a product, rather than the public API.
API-specific requests and reports on Google's Issue Tracker include:
- Reminders and Recurring Tasks, issue 36759725, filed on 2 November 2015. The request asks for reminder dates and times, including reminders for repeating tasks, through the Tasks API.
- Add the ability to get/set task due time via API, issue 128979662, filed on 20 March 2019. It reports that the API ignores the time even after Google's own apps gained time support.
- Please update the API (set precise time, etc.), issue 166896024, filed on 29 August 2020. The request asks for precise times and recurring tasks through the API to match Google's mobile app.
- Repeating tasks not listed, issue 273870211, filed on 16 March 2023. The report describes later instances of a repeating task no longer appearing in API results.
- Discards time from due date, issue 447592214, filed on 26 September 2025. The report asks Google to expose the time through the API.
Google may ask you to sign in to view an issue. These reports provide background; the published API reference defines the properties a sync connection can use. They are not a promise of future Google Tasks support in 2Do.
Choose a Supported Sync Method
- iCloud is recommended for your supported 2Do devices on Android, iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It uses an Apple Account and carries 2Do's task details, attachments, and organization.
- Dropbox is an alternative if you do not want to use an Apple Account. It carries task details and organization, with the attachment limits explained in its guide.
- Todoist lets you use the same tasks in 2Do and Todoist, including priorities, tags, and due times. Its guide explains which details need extra note text or stay local.
See Sync Overview for all supported services and their requirements. Sync requires 2Do Pro on Android after the full-featured trial.
Google Calendar Events
You can still see Google Calendar events beside your tasks when those calendars are available through Android's calendar provider. Enable Calendar Events and allow calendar access. This is separate from task sync and does not connect 2Do to Google Tasks.
