Which sync method should I use?

Mac app first

Some sync capabilities mentioned here, such as Merge sync and Todoist, are currently available in 2Do for Mac and are coming to the iOS app in an upcoming update.

Dropbox is the recommended sync method for 2Do. It's supported on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Android, and it carries every task property — including List Groups, Tag Groups, Smart Lists, attachments, and Search Presets.

2Do syncs through one account at a time, and every device should use the same method and account. The current methods are:

  • Dropbox — recommended; full feature support. See Dropbox sync (Mac).
  • WebDAV (coming soon) — will sync everything to your own or any WebDAV server; nothing stays behind. See WebDAV sync (Mac).
  • Apple Reminders — native EventKit sync, so your 2Do tasks also appear inside Apple's Reminders app. Attachments, standalone locations, and 2Do-only grouping (List Groups, Tag Groups, Smart Lists) stay on the device. See Reminders sync (Mac).
  • Todoist — connects with OAuth; your Todoist projects appear as 2Do lists. Attachments and standalone locations stay on the device. See Todoist sync (Mac).
  • Toodledo — useful if you already use Toodledo's web client; Actions and attachments don't map. See Toodledo sync (Mac).
  • iCloud CalDAV — Apple-hosted CalDAV, great for standard tasks, but List Groups, Tag Groups, and Smart Lists stay on the device. See iCloud CalDAV sync (Mac).
  • Custom CalDAV — Fruux, Yahoo!, Nextcloud, ownCloud, Synology, Fastmail, and other CalDAV servers. Same limitations as iCloud CalDAV. See Custom CalDAV sync (Mac).

Apple Reminders is a separate method from iCloud CalDAV. Choose Reminders if you want your tasks to live inside Apple's Reminders app; choose iCloud CalDAV for Apple-hosted CalDAV task lists that don't appear in the Reminders app. You can only run one of them at a time.

For a full per-method comparison of what each one carries, see Sync overview (Mac), Sync overview (iOS), or Sync overview (Android).
