Sync with Toodledo

If you already use Toodledo, 2Do for Mac can sync with your account. You'll keep web access via toodledo.com and Toodledo's email-to-task feature.

What Toodledo Sync Carries

  • Core task fields — title, notes, dates, recurrence, priority, location.
  • Tags, including tag assignment and (mostly) tag names.
  • Repeating tasks — Toodledo's recurrence model is rich.
  • Web access — your tasks are visible at toodledo.com and in any Toodledo client.

What Stays on This Mac

Some 2Do-only features stay on this Mac and are not carried by Toodledo sync:

  • Smart Lists
  • Tag groups
  • List groups
  • Unused tags
  • Attachments
  • Actions
note

Projects map to native Toodledo folders. Other apps may show nested checklists as a flat list.

A few Toodledo-specific behaviors to know about:

  • Alarms stay on each local 2Do device; Toodledo itself doesn't carry them.
  • Multiple locations assigned to a single task collapse to a single location.
  • Emoji characters in task content can be replaced with question marks (tasks with emoji can also end up duplicated, one with the emoji, one without).
  • Free Toodledo accounts flatten projects and checklists with sub-tasks into a single-level list; Toodledo Pro / Plus accounts preserve the project / checklist hierarchy.

Setup

  1. Open 2Do > Settings > Sync.
  2. Select Toodledo as the sync method.
  3. Enter your Toodledo username and password.
  4. Click Connect.
  5. Close Settings and press ⌘S (or click the Sync toolbar button) to run the first sync. 2Do asks whether to Merge, Replace Local Data, or Replace Server Data; see Merge vs Replace before choosing. You can re-run any of these later from Settings > Sync > Next sync action.

Two Toodledo-specific options appear once connected: Sync 2Do lists as Toodledo Folders (turn it off to map 2Do Lists to Toodledo Contexts instead), and Sync app preferences.

Daily Sync

Once configured, 2Do for Mac syncs in the background while running. You can also press ⌘S to force an immediate sync.

Switching Away from Toodledo

If you decide to leave Toodledo:

  1. Save a backup from Settings > Backups (a backup's ⋯ menu > Save a Copy…) as a safety net.
  2. Switch to Dropbox sync, which carries the features Toodledo skips.
  3. On the device with the most up-to-date data, populate Dropbox from that device. On the other devices, choose Replace Local Data to pull down.

Troubleshooting

"Could not retrieve info from the server, please try again later"

Usually transient. Wait a few minutes and retry. Persistent failures often point at network or Toodledo-side issues; check Toodledo's status page.

Adding another device

Install 2Do, sign in to the exact same Toodledo account, and let the first sync pull your data down. See Setting up a new device.

"Login is not working" / "check login or password"

Confirm your credentials at toodledo.com first. If they work there but fail in 2Do, regenerate your password (some special characters can confuse the API).

"Too many logins" failure

Toodledo rate-limits frequent connection attempts. Wait 15–30 minutes before trying again. Don't repeatedly tap Sync if you see this; that just resets the timer.

Lost lists or different counts across devices

After a misfire, run Sync on the most up-to-date device and let it finish. On lagging devices, choose Replace Local Data to pull a clean copy from Toodledo. See One of my devices isn't syncing correctly.

Toodledo Contexts and Goals don't appear

2Do does not import Toodledo Contexts or Goals. If you previously used those, consider mapping them to 2Do Tags (which Toodledo does sync) before switching.

Can't delete the Toodledo list tab

If a stuck "Toodledo" list tab appears that you can't remove, contact support so we can help you clean up the stale tab safely.

Tips

tip

If you rely heavily on hierarchical projects, multiple alarms per task, or attachments, Dropbox sync is a better fit.
