Widgets
2Do ships a set of macOS widgets so your tasks stay in view without the app in front. Place them on the desktop (macOS 14 and later) or in Notification Center, and they update live as your tasks change: completed tasks drop out, counts roll over, and the list refreshes around upcoming due times and at midnight.
Adding a Widget
- Right-click the desktop and choose Edit Widgets… (or open Notification Center by clicking the clock, scroll to the bottom, and click Edit Widgets).
- Find 2Do in the widget gallery.
- Pick a widget and size, then drag it onto the desktop or into Notification Center.
To change what a widget shows, right-click the widget and choose Edit "2Do"…. Its options appear in place.
The Widgets
List (Small, Medium, and Large)
The List widget shows the tasks of one list of your choice. A header carries the list's icon, name, and live counts (overdue in red, then remaining undone), and below it the widget fits as many upcoming tasks as its size allows.
The list picker mirrors your sidebar: regular lists grouped by List Group, Focus Lists such as Inbox, All, Today, Starred, and Scheduled, and your Smart Lists. If no list is chosen, the widget shows Today.
Each size adds a little more:
- Small — the essentials: header and tasks. Options: Task List, Widget Action, and Multi-line Titles.
- Medium — adds a floating
+button for capturing a new task straight from the widget (turn it off with the Plus Button option if you prefer a cleaner look). - Large — adds two extra display toggles: Show Dates (due dates on each row) and Show List Names (the task's home list above its title, handy when a Focus List or Smart List mixes tasks from several lists).
Today
The Today widget is a medium widget dedicated to your Today Focus List. The left side shows a calendar day tile (weekday, the day's number, month, and a capsule with today's overdue and remaining counts) and the right side lists what's on for today. There's no list picker; it's always Today.
Customization Options
Right-click a widget and choose Edit "2Do"… to reach these:

Interacting with a Widget
- Click a task to jump straight to it in 2Do.
- Click the checkbox to complete the task right on the widget, without opening 2Do (medium and large widgets, macOS 14 and later).
- Click the
+button (or set Widget Action to New Task) to start a new task. - Click anywhere else to perform the Widget Action: open the list, or start a new task.
New tasks created from a widget are filed into the list chosen under 2Do > Settings > Today & Lists > Widget > Widget List. Leave it on None and your usual default list rules apply.
Good to Know
- Completed tasks never appear in a widget; it's always what's left to do.
- When a list is empty, the widget shows No Tasks. If the list's Focus Filter is hiding everything, a small Focus Filter Active note explains why.
- Widgets scale with your Mac's text size settings, fitting fewer, larger rows as text grows.
- If a chosen list can't be found later (deleted, or replaced during a sync), the widget matches it by name where possible and otherwise falls back to Today.
Tips
Pair a Today widget with a large List widget pointed at a Smart List (say, High Priority or This Week) on the desktop. One glance covers both what's due now and what's coming.
