A copy purchased from the Mac App Store is no different than purchasing it directly from us. Both licenses are valid and you own the app 100%, without recurring payments or subscriptions.
Downloading it directly from us simply allows you to generate and register your copy directly with us, so that you receive updates quicker and become part of any ongoing beta-testing (if you so wished) of the latest and greatest features.
You can also easily redeem a free activation code if you install the direct version over an already installed MAS version. Simply click on the "Migrate your License..." option under 2Do menu.
