Password Protection

Some tasks are nobody else's business. 2Do for iOS lets you lock individual lists or the whole app behind Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode.

Setting a Passcode

  1. Scroll to the bottom of the Lists panel and tap the gear icon to open Settings.
  2. Tap Privacy.
  3. Turn on Passcode, then enter and verify the new passcode.
  4. Optionally toggle Use Face ID or Use Touch ID to unlock with biometrics.

Locking the Whole App

By default, when you set a new passcode, 2Do is configured to lock everything — the whole app, every list. If you only want to lock a couple of specific lists, switch the global app-lock option off in Settings > Privacy.

When the app is locked, 2Do shows a blurred screen and asks for the passcode (or biometric) before revealing content. Auto-lock options control when 2Do should re-lock:

  • Immediately when sent to the background.
  • After 1 minute.
  • After 3 minutes.
  • After 5 minutes.
  • After 10 minutes.

Locking Individual Lists

With the global app-lock off, you can pick exactly which lists are protected:

  1. Open Settings > Privacy and tap Protected Lists.
  2. Flick the switch on for each list you want to lock.

A small lock indicator appears next to the list name on the Lists screen. While a list is locked, all of its tasks are hidden from the Focus Lists (All, Today, Starred, etc.).

To temporarily unlock a list, select it and tap the padlock button that appears. After authenticating, the list and its tasks are visible again until you re-lock or auto-lock kicks in.

Hide When Locked

Beyond locking, you can hide a locked list entirely from the sidebar so even its existence isn't visible. Long-press the locked list → Hide When Locked. Reveal hidden lists from More > Show Hidden Lists (this prompts for the passcode).

Resetting a Forgotten Passcode

If you forget the passcode:

  • If you sync via Dropbox or CalDAV, your data should still be available from your sync account. Reinstall 2Do, sync again, and pick a new passcode.
  • On a single-device setup, use a recent 2Do backup if you need to recover your data after reinstalling.

Pair password protection with regular Backups.

Tips

tip

Use Face ID or Touch ID for everyday speed, with the passcode as the fallback. iOS will fall back to passcode after a few biometric failures.
