iOS 4.0 Local alerts

Postby admin » Fri Jul 23, 2010 1:57 am

Folks,

We're almost done with 2Do v2.0. All 'Push alert' woes will be over once the new version is out. Local alerts will be supported out of the box plus other neat iOS 4.0 features.

This doesn't seem to work for me. I set and alarm and nothing ever happens.

I'm on an iPhone 4 using iOS 4.1 Beta 3 so maybe the beta is causing the problem.

Running iOS 4.0.1 on 3GS and the alarms only work about half the time.
I have tried re-starting the phone leaving the app on in the background, everything.
It doesn't seem to change the fact that half the time the alert just doesn't sound.
Is there a fix coming for this? Because it pretty much renders this otherwise awesome app impotent. :(

Are you referring to 2Do v2.0? Are alerts not working for you? Can you send us your error logs (from 2Do->Settings->Advanced) and mention this post.

Local alerts are only partly working on my iPhone 4. Even though I have my phone volume set to maximum (the ringer is really loud), I can only hear the local alert sounds very faintly. I literally have to hold the phone's speaker up to my ear to hear the tone. There appears to be a disconnect between the phone's volume settings and 2Do's. Otherwise an excellent app!!! I'm using version 2.0.

Even when choosing an alert tone from within the settings menu, the tone volume is extremely low.

I did a sync to toodledo, uninstalled and reinstalled 2do on my iphone then synced it back from toodledo and now the local alerts work again.

Sounds are working now. Tried rebooting the iPhone, and that did the trick.

I'm having the same problem with the alerts. I just downloaded this app after falling in love with it. It's exactly what I've been looking for. When I first set up the alarms, I was still entering items in the calendars and an alert text popped up, but no sound. Then I set the alarms for another time (both alarm and text) and re-booted the phone, then no alerts popped up. I haven't tried to un-install then re-install and I really don't want to do that. Please keep up posted as to when this will be fixed. I really need the alerts otherwise, I'm lost in life. :ugeek:

I'm confused why you make the user set a time for the task and an alarm independently? Omnifocus assumes that when one sets a time associated with a task they would like local notification.

Up to now I have used "Todo" and it worked perfectly for me with push alarms. The setting of alarms behaves in a way that I would expect without reading a manual: alarm time is identic to task time (or a few minutes before, if you like), and it is set without any further action, even when you mail a task to Toodledo and sync. But I like the UI of 2Do and now - with the implemantation of Toodledo-syncing and local alarms - I had give it a try.
At least you can automate the need for setting an independant alarm in 2Do with the "Auto Reminder" in the alarm settings. But it is not possible to set the clock adjustment in relation to the task time (e.g. 5 minutes before task time), so that makes it unusable for me (I need an alarm the same day, but not always at 8:00 am).
Besides the "Auto Reminder" function doesn´t work with tasks synced from Toodledo. So, I hope, this will be considered in the next update. Until then I will go on using "Todo".

I am also having issues with Local Alerts not firing on iOS4.01 (iPhone 4-Jailbroken). I am using 2.0 and have uninstalled and re-installed.

Please advise. Thanks.

Is there a plan to have alerts working when synced with Toodledo? This is the one feature missing that would really seal the deal for this app to be among the best of all time. Is there a workaround for those of us who use Toodledo online during the day so we can set alarms without having to turn them on via the app? Either that or perhaps an update that doesn't separate the time due/alarm set options. Why set a time if you don't want an alarm? GW Support - could you possibly post step-by-step instructions for this feature and how to make this work with Toodledo?

Great work and thanks for the beautiful app!!

Yes, that´s the point. There´s no need for different time/alarm settings at all.
Thanks for auto-setting of alert´s time to be due time in the actual update 2.1
This in combination with Toodlesync-Sync, and then it´s perfect for me and I will definitely switch to 2Do.

Yes! I just bought 2Do thinking v2.1 has auto alerts when synching from Toodledo. I'm disappointed that it does not. Please implement this feature!

I am having same issue as some others with local alert sounds suddenly becoming very faint every 1-2 days or so. Rebooting iPhone sometimes fixes the issue but not always, and also - strangely enough - changing the ringtone volume (which on my iPhone is always on max setting) by lowering it and then setting it back to max also fixes the issue every time so far. The main nuisance with this however is that you can never tell when the issue is going to occur, so if you have your phone set for an important alarm and you're not reminded it's really annoying.

I have only started having this sound / alert issue since I installed 2Do on my iPhone, so combined with reading other similar stories here, this seems to be strong evidence which indicates that this issue is related to a software bug in 2Do.

Please fix this, thanks!

When I set a message alert, there is no sound. I have to manually add a separate sound alert also. Is this normal? I thought a sound would happen with the message pop up

Do we really need two types of notifications? It's just confusing and prone to error. More than once I have tapped "message" when I wanted a sound alert.

Let's keep it simple! Setting an alarm will activate a local alert with message and sound, as other apps do.

Since 2Do syncs with CalDAV / iCal, we wanted 2Do to be fully compatible with it. iCal supports multiple alert types and so this design decision was made in v1.0. Yes, perhaps in a later version might simplify this.
